Last night more than 150 Cleveland executives and IT professionals gathered for the grand opening of SecureData 365’s second data center in Ohio, located at ByteGrid’s Cleveland Technology Center.
Tracey Nichols, Director of Cleveland’s Department of Economic Development, delivered a proclamation from Mayor Frank Jackson recognizing how technology has been a significant factor in the city’s revitalization. SecureData 365’s data center will be an epicenter for innovation as more than 2,000 IT professionals will call the data center “home” for their IT infrastructure and cloud services.
The evening featured a keynote address from Len Komoroski, CEO of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena. Komoroski stressed that Cleveland is becoming a destination for innovation and businesses as Cleveland undergoes an exciting transformation from manufacturing to an innovation and technology community. With the RNC convention slated to come to Cleveland in 2016, Komoroski called these “remarkable times.” “It’s a different city and we are ready,” said Komoroski.
David Griffin, General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, also addressed the audience on the eve of the NBA playoffs. The Cavaliers themselves use SecureData 365 facilities in Canton and Griffin cited just how rewarding it is to see a team come together like the Cavs have – both on the court and in the front offices.

Campanelli was pleased to report that the center in Cleveland has already attracted the interest of several businesses – including businesses that moved their IT infrastructure out of Ohio and want to come back. Firms from across the nation including Wall Street and the globe as close as Canada and as far away as Asia are turning to SecureData 365 for cloud and IT services. Based in Canton, SecureData 365 was recently recognized as one of the region’s top 10 fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio.
SecureData 365’s data center officially opens its doors on May 1st and is located at 1525 Rockwell Avenue.
On March 20th, SecureData 365 was thrilled to be a primary sponsor of the David A. Bowers Economic Forecast Luncheon presented by the Weatherhead School of Management. As a graduate of the Weatherhead School and student of Dr. Bowers, SecureData 365’s own Michael Campanelli talks about what the event means to him.

Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) is considered the “gold standard” for data centers. SecureData 365 management developed control objectives for the significant areas of internal control that support our services. The control objectives addressed each of the following areas:
Logical Access and Security
Infrastructure Change Management
SecureData 365’s service auditor performed thorough testing of the control activities that have been implemented to help ensure that our control objectives are met. The service auditor finalized our testing with the following conclusion:
“In our opinion, in all material respects, based on the criteria described in the Company’s assertion:
The description fairly presents the system that was designed and implemented.
The controls related to the control objectives stated in the description were suitably designed to provide reasonable assurance that the control objectives would be achieved if the controls operated effectively and user entities applied the complementary user entity controls contemplated in the design of the Company’s controls.
The controls tested, which together with the complementary user entity controls referred to in the report, if operating effectively, were those necessary to provide reasonable assurance that the control objectives stated in the description were achieved.”
The SSAE16 SOC1 Type II audit report is designed to provide clients with a certain level of assurance regarding the controls that are maintained by SecureData 365’s management. SecureData 365’s management understands the increasing importance of corporate governance, as well as the impact of the organization’s services on our clients’ systems. The successful completion of the audit is only part of SecureData 365’s continued commitment to providing our client’s a high level of service and internal controls.
Northeast Ohio has the trappings of fast and efficient digital communications–including access to fiber optic highways and relatively cheap, reliable power. Yet most corporate and commercial data centers have been built elsewhere.
SecureData 365, a Canton-area technology pioneer, thinks the tide is turning and it intends to ride the wave. The five-year-old company will soon expand its operations to Cleveland, becoming the largest tenant in the re-emerging Cleveland Technology Center downtown.
Cleveland Center Located in BYTEGRID’S Cleveland Technology Center Will Compliment Canton Center to Bring the Midwest Unmatched Redundancy and Reliability
(September 9, 2014) Canton, Ohio – Today Ohio’s premier data center announced it will be opening a second Ohio data center in Cleveland, on the edge of downtown in BYTEGRID’s Cleveland Technology Center (CTC). The announcement is especially significant in that the state have agreed that any new customer IT equipment placed in the center in the next fifteen years will be eligible for exemption from the State’s 8% State sales tax.
Driven by an ever-expanding Canton data center as well as increased demand from its customers to open a Cleveland center, SecureData 365’s new data center will feature all new infrastructure (new generator farm and chiller plant) on the first floor of the CTC. The building will be LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, signifying leadership in the green building movement. SecureData 365’s Cleveland data center will be FISMA compliant and will meet Uptime Institute Tier 3 standards. Customers will start moving in next quarter and the center will be open for full business by April, 2015.
The CTC is Cleveland’s largest data center and is situated on top of one of the largest fiber points of presence (PoP) sites in Ohio. With 333,215 sq. ft. of highly secure, compliant-grade space, BYTEGRID will serve as a primary PoP supporting SecureData’s plans for providing high-speed broadband access and a variety of data center services to Cleveland businesses. “While our Canton location has been ideal for businesses in the state of Ohio and across the nation,” explained Michael Campanelli, Executive Vice President at SecureData 365, “the new data center in Cleveland answers requests we’ve had from numerous businesses about having a second facility on a diverse power grid. The CTC, while providing more convenient access to downtown, will also permit us to feature services such as site-to-site replication at no additional cost.”
The addition of the Cleveland site provides businesses with:
Redundancy with Proximity – With separate power grids serving each center, locating in Canton and Cleveland will provide a backup for continuing operations should “worse case” happen. With two centers within manageable driving distance, the client can receive redundancies without the time required to fly from state to state.
Constant Connectivity – With seven carriers serving the center with fiber, clients are assured constant and redundant connectivity.
Cost Savings for Replication – While most data centers charge for site-to-site replication, SecureData 365’s clients will realize significant savings by including the bandwidth and secure segment required for site-to-site replication at no additional cost.
SecureData 365 (and 24×7) – Realize the security and flexibility that two separate centers provide, with professionals that can serve as your “remote hands” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Additional Security Measures – We’re following best practices in our new center with a separate manned entry into the space (not the common shared tenant entrance), vehicle barriers, and increased security around the building and generator farm.
“We are thrilled to have SecureData 365 as an new tenant in BYTEGRID’s Cleveland Technology Center,” said Don Goodwin, BYTEGRID’s EVP of Sales & Marketing. “We continue to invest in Cleveland’s emergence as a premier business destination and we look forward to delivering the region’s most advanced data center facility that tenants like SecureData 365 and their customers require.”
SecureData 365 already has commitment from numerous businesses to move into the CTC, including local companies looking to bring their out-of-state data centers back home to Northeast Ohio.

If you’ve visited SecureData 365 you know that we had a pretty rigorous sign-in system for access to the center already in place. The downside was the extra time (and trees) required to run a paper-based system.
For our clients’ convenience, for greater security, and to do a little bit towards saving the planet we’ve moved our access registration to an electronic kiosk. The next time you visit SecureData 365’s facilities you will be asked to present your driver’s license or company photo ID. We’ll scan it while you complete the registration process within the system as well as a personal 6-digit pin.
On subsequent visits, you simply login to the kiosk with your pin and your information will pop up for the center’s operations team to verify your identity (using the photo from registration) and provide you access to go with the one-time pass the kiosk produces.
Automating this system also provides you with the ability to track when your staff and vendors are in the center on your behalf. We can even provide you with email alerts should you want to track when a vendor (or one of your employees) is in the center to service your equipment.
This is a great way for us to verify that everyone trying to enter the center belongs in the center.
